Graduate Design Engineer

What you need to know:
Matrix Recruitment is currently recruiting for a Graduate Design Engineer on behalf of our client, a leading medical device company based in County Roscommon.
This is a permanent, full-time position, working Monday to Friday.

Your New Job:
The Graduate Design Engineer designs custom manufacturing equipment and tooling for medical device production, working closely with process and controls engineers to develop robust, automated mechanical systems. Responsibilities include creating detailed engineering drawings and bills of materials to support accurate quotations and implementation. They also assist during build and debug stages to help keep projects on schedule.

Graduate Design Engineer Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop robust, cost-effective manufacturing equipment and tooling; create mechanical BOMs, detailed drawings, and build packs; and present 3D models and design concepts to both internal teams and customers.
  • Support build and debug stages by proactively resolving issues, ensuring accurate and efficient builds, and delivering automation solutions on time and within budget; manage project budgets and liaise with vendors for custom component procurement.
  • Stay current with industrial automation technologies to implement innovative, cost-reducing solutions; lead and execute process improvement projects from concept through implementation.
  • Evaluate design feasibility, cost, and maintenance requirements through research; gain familiarity with various manufacturing processes to work across multiple product lines; identify and specify critical spare parts.
  • Ensure adherence to quality and environmental management systems and perform additional ad hoc duties as required.


What are we looking for?
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or manufacturing engineering is required and desirable experience in medical device manufacturing and validation protocols.
  • Strong knowledge of SolidWorks.
  • Strong process engineering background with the ability to plan, organise, and prioritise tasks; capable of driving projects to completion; project management training is an advantage.
  • Proficient in statistical analysis techniques for problem-solving and quality improvement; able to assess and address technical issues effectively.
