Our client, a leading civil engineering and infrastructure contractor, is seeking an experienced Senior Quantity Surveyor / Commercial Manager to join their team in Laois.
This is a full-time, permanent role offering the opportunity to lead the commercial delivery of multiple high-profile projects across the Midlands. The position requires strong commercial acumen, strategic leadership, and a results-driven mindset, with a defined career path toward a Commercial Manager role.
You will take full commercial ownership of assigned projects, working collaboratively with Project Managers, General Works Managers, and site teams to ensure optimal value delivery, effective cost management, and robust risk control.
Key Duties & Responsibilities:

Lead the commercial strategy and implementation for assigned civil and infrastructure projects.

Conduct feasibility studies and provide input into cost planning and decision-making.

Manage cost control processes, including budgeting, cost-benefit analysis, forecasting, and reporting throughout all project phases.

Oversee the preparation and agreement of valuations, variations, and final accounts.

Produce regular cost/value reports, highlighting key risks, opportunities, and commercial performance metrics.

Provide commercial leadership to project teams, influencing positive outcomes across cost, value, and risk.

Mentor and develop junior Quantity Surveying staff, supporting their professional growth and development.

Collaborate with pre-construction, design, and delivery teams to ensure seamless project execution.

Ensure full compliance with contractual and company procedures.

Participate in estimating and tender preparation for upcoming projects.
What Are We Looking For?
-
Demonstrated experience as a Senior Quantity Surveyor within civil engineering or infrastructure projects.

Proven ability to lead and deliver commercial outcomes on projects exceeding €5 million in value.

Strong understanding of contract administration and commercial management principles.

Proficiency in cost reporting, valuations, claims preparation, and contract negotiation.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with strong commercial awareness and attention to detail.

Leadership capability with the ability to influence, collaborate, and guide project stakeholders effectively.

Skilled in balancing assertiveness with diplomacy when dealing with clients, consultants, and subcontractors.
Qualifications & Skills:

Degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Economics, or a related discipline.

Chartered or actively pursuing chartership (RICS, SCSI, CIOB, or equivalent).

Solid understanding of CVR processes, dispute resolution, and relevant legal frameworks.

Commitment to continuous professional development in contract law, negotiation, and emerging industry trends.
