1. Can you describe your current role - what's your typical day-to-day?
As a Compliance Operations Officer, I oversee the onboarding process for temporary employees, ensuring all necessary compliance checks are completed before a candidate starts their new role. My responsibilities include managing health and safety across our three offices, conducting audits, and performing risk assessments. I also ensure GDPR compliance by implementing data protection practices and providing training sessions. Additionally, I collaborate with HR to develop and manage company policies while facilitating onboarding for temporary contracts, making sure all compliance steps are adhered to.
2. What are the 3 key skills you need to excel as a good Compliance professional?
Attention to Detail: This skill is essential for identifying and addressing potential compliance issues. It involves thoroughly reviewing documents, monitoring processes, and conducting audits to ensure accuracy.
Creative Problem Solving: Compliance and data protection often present complex challenges that require innovative solutions and effective strategies.
Effective Communication: Clear communication is vital for training staff, explaining compliance requirements, and coordinating efforts across different departments.
3. What would you regard as your greatest achievement to date?
One of my proudest achievements is my decision to relocate to Ireland in 2014. Leaving behind my familiar surroundings to embrace a new culture was a significant step. In Ireland, I earned my master’s degree from the University of Limerick in 2016, marking a pivotal milestone in my personal and professional growth. Since then, I have built a diverse career across various roles, gaining valuable experience and insights. This year, I also celebrated becoming an Irish citizen!
4. What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever been given?
“Life is full of challenges, but feel the fear and do it anyway.” – My mom
5. What hobbies/interests do you have outside of work?
I am a bit of a nerd at heart, and host a podcast called Wanderlustdnd, where we dive into the world of Dungeons and Dragons 5e through immersive actual play sessions. Our podcast is a collaborative effort by a group of friends dedicated to pushing the limits of storytelling and improvisation. Each episode features unscripted audio adventures, weaving intricate narratives that explore the journeys of both heroes and villains. Through our dynamic gameplay and creative storytelling, we aim to captivate our listeners and transport them into a rich, fantastical world where every decision shapes the unfolding adventure.
