What are we looking for

A well-established and award-winning manufacturer of chilled and frozen foods in Co. Westmeath is seeking an ambitious and driven Production Manager to join their team.

As Production Manager, you will have responsibility for managing the day-to-day running of site operations, ensuring the safe and efficient production of products. You will ensure that production and quality targets are consistently met and that personnel are managed and trained effectively to carry out their duties.

Your New Job

  • Direct and manage food manufacturing activities and personnel to ensure daily production targets are achieved to meet customer demand.

  • Identify continuous improvement projects to drive efficiencies and cost savings.

  • Oversee recruitment and make provision for the training and development of personnel across the production, maintenance and hygiene departments.

  • Identify, motivate and develop personnel so they can become leaders in key roles.

  • Make provision for cross training and labour cover for key positions in the event of inadequate staffing due to unforeseen circumstances such as sickness.

  • Ensure all disciplinary incidents and staff absence are dealt with in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with the company human resources policies.

  • Effectively communicate with all team members on a regular basis and provide opportunities for feedback.

  • Conduct employee Performance Development Reviews and establish training and development plans.

  • Lead and drive a culture of staff engagement focusing on teamwork, problem solving, transparency and reporting.

  • Provide key performance indicator data as required and comply with all internal and external audit requirements.

  • Develop strong relationships by supporting, collaborating and challenging where appropriate other departments in order to drive continuous improvement in site standards.

  • Manage maintenance & engineering for the site that delivers a consistent, timely, cost effective and quality service for the smooth operation of site activities.

  • Actively comply with and enforce all relevant statutory, company and site policies and procedures.

  • Ensure all aspects of the hygiene service are carried out and maintained by the hygiene team to the required standard.

  • Ensure all manufacturing, maintenance and cleaning staff are trained and competent in all procedures relevant to their role including the use of equipment and machinery.

  • Always lead by example and work well under pressure in a fast-moving manufacturing environment.

What are we looking for?

  • An experienced professional with a proven track record of managing and leading a multi-disciplinary team within a food manufacturing environment.

  • Experience of working within a regulated manufacturing environment.

  • Proven experience of delivering continuous improvement projects.

  • Industry acumen and knowledge of production systems, cleaning methodologies and engineering solutions.

  • Experience of effectively mainly budgets and producing detailed production reports.

  • Experience of managing external third-party service providers.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and motivate staff and colleagues.

  • Excellent planning and organisation skills.

  • Project management skills – Ability to assess project and resource requirements, estimating and negotiating costs and agreeing budgets and timescales.

  • Excellent problem-solving capabilities and the ability to think outside of box when offering solutions.

  • PC literacy – Competent on all MS Office packages.
