What you need to know:

Matrix Recruitment are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Lending Officer to join our client, a financial company, based in Galway.

The Lending Officer will support the growth and management of the Client’s loan book and portfolio by providing lending advice to members, assessing member applications, and maintaining high service standards.

This is a 10-month contract position with the possibility of other opportunities arising afterwards.

Key duties & responsibilities:

  • Engage with members to understand their financial needs, offering solutions for both personal and SME lending. Ensure that repayment capacity is carefully evaluated for all financial commitments.

  • Build strong relationships with members, providing clear guidance on loan options and repayment structures to meet their financial goals.

  • Conduct thorough credit assessments, preparing detailed and tailored credit reports and proposals aligned with the complexity of each application.

  • Evaluate repayment capacities for a variety of credit applications.

  • Assist in the development and implementation of lending policies and contribute to the creation of new product offerings to support business growth.

  • Monitor the performance of the loan portfolio, proactively identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.

  • Maintain accurate loan documentation and ensure compliance with internal policies, regulatory requirements, and audit standards.

  • Provide regular updates on lending performance to senior management and the Board, supporting strategic decision-making.

  • Adhere to all credit union policies and governance requirements.

  • Comply with GDPR legislation.

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a lending role, preferably within a credit union or similar financial institution.

  • Fully QFA qualified preferred. APA Loans certification is essential, with a commitment to achieving QFA status if not already qualified.

  • Commitment to ongoing professional development and training.

  • Strong understanding of the Irish lending market, including personal and SME lending practices.

  • Proven ability to assess loan applications, including financial analysis and risk evaluation.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to build relationships with members and stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills, with attention to detail in assessing financial data and preparing reports.

  • Ability to prioritise tasks, manage workloads efficiently, and meet deadlines.

  • Team player with the ability to work collaboratively and independently as required.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
