What you need to know

A leading medical device company that has a global reach and is at the forefront of developing new medical technologies is seeking an experienced and accomplished Senior R&D Process Development Engineer for a 12-month contract in Galway City.

As an R&D Process Development Engineer, you will report directly to the R&D Manager and work on groundbreaking polymer coating projects. The role is vital to developing and improving current processes while adhering to regulatory requirements.

This a 12-month contract.


Your New Job

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Lead the research and development of new polymer coating formulations and processes, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. 

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate coating processes into regulated product lines, maintaining the highest quality standards. 

  • Design and execute experiments to optimize coating parameters within the framework of regulatory guidelines. 

  • Thoroughly characterise coating properties using techniques such as FTIR, rheology, SEM, and mechanical testing.

  • Analyse experimental data and provide data-driven insights to guide process improvements.

  • Overcome coating-related challenges with a focus on compliance and data-driven decision-making. 

  • Stay current with evolving industry regulations, advancements in polymer coatings, and relevant manufacturing technologies within regulated environments. 

  • Develop and maintain documentation, including standard operating procedures and comprehensive technical reports. 

  • Collaborate closely with suppliers to evaluate and source regulatory-compliant polymer coating materials. 


What are we looking for?

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or another relevant technical field. A Master's or PhD is highly desirable.  

  • Extensive experience in developing polymer coatings within highly regulated environments.

  • Proficiency in designing and executing experiments within the constraints of regulatory requirements. 

  • Strong knowledge of polymer chemistry, and coating techniques.

  • Proven experience with process scale-up and technology transfer.

  • Familiarity with quality control processes and methodologies within regulated industries. 

  • Proficiency in using laboratory equipment and software for analysis.

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate across teams.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 

  • Innovative mindset coupled with the ability to adapt to new challenges.
